BIOGRAPHY

ENGLISH

French pianist and composer Maxence Cyrin has developed a body of work since the mid-2000s in which the piano occupies a central place, combining melodic writing, repetitive forms and an exploration of new instrumental colours. His recording career truly began in 2006 with Modern Rhapsodies. In 2010, Novö Piano brought him international recognition: stripped of their original instrumentation, iconic songs from pop culture were entirely reimagined for solo piano. His version of the Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind?” became an enduring success, receiving a triple Diamond export certification in France and featuring in numerous films and television series, including The Leftovers and Mr. Robot. With Aurora, Maxence Cyrin joined Warner Classics and entered a new period of his work, increasingly devoted to his own compositions. This evolution continued with Melancholy Island in 2022 and Springsong in 2023, as strings began to enter his piano sound world.

His new album, PRESAGE, to be released by Warner Classics on 26 February 2027, continues and expands this direction. Its ten original pieces alternate between solo piano, cello duets, trio, and piano with string orchestra. From one piece to another, the writing moves from simple, repetitive motifs to long melodic lines, while the strings take on an increasingly important role in the musical space. In PRESAGE, the piano is no longer necessarily alone in the foreground. It enters into dialogue with the strings, sometimes receding behind them before re-emerging within a broader architecture. Some pieces unfold on an almost cinematic scale, while others remain more intimate.

With PRESAGE, Maxence Cyrin continues to develop his work as a composer, with melody remaining its central point of reference while his writing takes on a new orchestral dimension.

Sa version de « Where Is My Mind?
